About

What about me?  Can we start with some things that I love?  I love my husband and my son, Niko.  They are my life!  I love misty Seattle clouds that lay over the city and makes me feel as if every-other walk is a dip in a clean lake.  I love canning fruits and vegetables during a good harvest season.  I love baking things that are heavy with stone ground grains.  I love reading a great novel in the bathtub.  I love dancing all night (though I don’t get to exercise that love very often).  I love the sound of a clock ticking.  I love daydreaming about vintage dresses and all the parties they attended before reaching my closet.  I love my yoga practice, and often go off the deep end making that practice analogize every aspect of my life.   I love cowboy boots and crazy socks.  I love when throwing every color possible on my self actually works.

I love the craft of cutting dying, and styling hair.  I love getting into a meditation with my scissors and doing my thing.  I love talking to my awesome clients about all the stories in life.  I love the moment when someone looks up happily because I’ve helped them look how they feel inside.  I dig details.  Vintage twanged modernity.  Texture.  Movement.  A cascade of thick, wavy hair.  An intensely detailed short crop can become my meditation.  The possibility of shape within Asian or Indian hair makes me happy.  Redheads were my first girl-crushes as a young one and not much feels better than nailing the perfect red formula.  I think that every length of hair deserves attention to detail and style. I love precision cutting with old school methods.  I love Japanese texturizing and new school methods.  I love a sexy, smart, ‘do.

I think that glamour should be accessible.  I think it’s possible to leave the house every day feeling pretty great about how you look even when you are overwhelmed with your modern crazy lifestyle of trying to balance EVERYTHING.  I think that it’s possible to feel a bit of this glamour without having to see your stylist too many times a year, and I strive to provide my clients with a look that can last and grow for a while.

I moved to Seattle after several years of living and training in wonderful New York City.   During my east coast tenure, I trained with the magical stylists of Space Salon in Soho.  There, I had the structure of a Vidal Sassoon training coupled with a rock-star Japanese technique.  I also got to explore the wonderful hairstyling world of fashion and television that can only come from living in New York.

I moved to Seattle in January of 2008.  After a long adjustment to the radical differentness of a west coast lifestyle, I can honestly say that I think Seattle is terrific.  I’ve settled in nicely and have found my hairstyling home at VAIN, an incredible, community based, hot-seat of talented artistry.

I LOVE my new haircut so much. I was a little nervous after my hair disaster (last Easter, um, yes, I am a very low-maintenance hair girl, and get it cut once a year at most), but you were awesome. I know I told you I’d probably come back in six months, but I might even have to make it three or four. You’re a total ROCK STAR. I had a great time and you’ve managed to fix my whacky straight/curly head. Thank you.

    Hey Kellianne,

It was great to see you last week, loving my haircut! I wanted to send you some links to the mom resources I love in Seattle. I am so excited for you, you look amazing!

First Weeks – This was my savior the firt 8 weeks after Julian was born. It’s a free drop in class for new mom’s where you can get together and discuss just about anything. It’s moderated by nurses who have a wealth of information. I met some wonderful women who I still keep in touch with today. More info here http://www.birthandbeyond.com/firstweeks.html

Yahoo Mom’s Groups – I belong to Capitol Hill, Madrona and Queen Anne. Great for buying baby stuff, learning about events, activities, schools, etc… There might be a Belltown mom’s group, not sure. http://dir.groups.yahoo.com/group/capitolhillparenting/?v=1&t=directory&ch=web&pub=groups&sec=dir&slk=24

    Hey Kellianne,
I am a friend of Megan Bailey’s and she recommended I come to you to get my hair fixed. (Recently let a girl who “cuts hair” have a go). Its curly and short and 80s flop. Not good, but I’m excited to get it fixed with a good short style and now not scared to get it cut funky. The problem is that I will only be in Seattle right around xmas (23rd – 27th) and you’re not in at VAIN then. I will be in NYC a little bit soon, do you know of anyone good i should call there?

    thanks so much,
    noni

Oh man, that’s a bummer that we can’t meet! Megan Bailey is one of my favorite clients, and any friend of hers is welcome to my chair with bells!!

As far as Vain is concerned, I’m willing to bet that Sara B or Sam could do your style some wicked justice.

If you’re looking for an NYC cut, Renee at Space Salon in SoHo recently cut my hair off, and it is OMG! AWESOME!!! If you go, please tell her that I sent you!
